Timber Casement Windows for a Devon Home

This timber casement window project was timed with a general refurbishment of a stone built country home. With any joinery job we’re here to listen, not to sell. After a meeting and reviewing the condition of the existing timber windows and french doors it was decided to progress with new joinery.

We reviewed the existing joinery and our client liked the “Stop Chamfer” detail on the frames. Due to our approach we could easily add this classic design to our joinery. This is one of the big advantages of a small custom joinery workshop like ours. We can adapt and replicate details where required.

A split coating was specified. This simply means one colour of coating outside and a different one for the inside. Fortunately the client was able to provide us with the colour codes required to ensure we had a match with existing joinery. Applying a split coating is more time consuming and does incur extra cost. But we feel it is important to offer this option so clients can get what they want without having to employ other trades to finish our work.

The windows themselves are casement windows. These are the most common window styles made in our workshop. Made with traditional mortise and tenon joints along with trickle vents that we colour coordinated. They also feature weather resistant seals, brass hinges, traditional ironmongery and efficient double glazing to reduce heat loss.

It’s a pleasure to execute good joinery well. Casement windows may well be a simple concept, but by matching time tested joinery methods with modern requirements we ensure that we can deliver a quality product.

As is common with our work we installed the joinery too. Taking responsibility for the survey, the making, painting, glazing and onsite fitting is important to us. Too often we’ve witnessed a disjointed process and where possible if we can be responsible for all aspects we can give our client one point of contact.

We were delighted that during the fitting the clients were so pleased that they ordered two more windows. Fortunately we were able to get the two extra windows made and installed within two weeks to ensure we got everything finished off in advance of the new carpetes arriving. We also helped out by fitting some trim to an existing flight of stairs. If we’re on site we are open to help out with a few other small jobs if we feel we can be efficient and effective.
